It’s been a few years now since I’ve actively posted online, so for those who have just recently found me or this blog, I’d like to introduce myself and my company. My name is Julian Marchese and I am the CEO & CIO of XMonetae Capital LLC, a hedge fund management firm.
Over the years I’ve garnered some publicity in the investment world for being someone who found a passion in trading at a very young age. I’ve been featured on CNBC, Bloomberg, & Fox Business and written about in Business Insider, Yahoo Finance, & Crain’s New York, to name a few. Financial markets have been an obsession of mine ever since I can remember, having made my first trade when I was 11 years old and joining a NYC-based prop trading firm at age 14.
I started my first hedge fund management company, Marchese Investments, immediately after turning 18 and dropped out of New York University’s Stern School of Business after a year to focus on building it. Marchese Investments’ trading track record was a success, generating a +30% gross return on a max drawdown of 4% with no correlation to traditional macro markets over its 2+ year history.
It has been my dream for almost a decade to build a successful hedge fund business into the billions of AUM. I knew the next step towards that goal was to assemble a phenomenal team, so in early 2017 I embarked on a mission to find the best partner to join me. I eventually found that in Eric Yeh, who had a 20-year career in quantitative trading / HFT, and most recently used his accumulated knowledge to grow another hedge fund as CIO. We formed XMonetae Capital with a shared vision of building a world-class hedge fund.
Over the last few years, I’ve taken a step out of the public eye to put my head down and build XMonetae Capital together with Eric. So why start this blog now?
Having achieved our preliminary benchmark for success (we generated a +60% gross return since our inception in July 2018), we now have more opportunity to focus on connections to the community. I’ve found an online presence in the past to be a great way of meeting like-minded people – in fact, I currently have close business relationships with people I met online years ago.
I’m also going to use this platform as a sounding board for trade ideas, strategies, and general market thoughts, as well as a way to bounce ideas off other portfolio managers in the community. I look forward to meeting more great people through this blog and my Twitter @JulianMarchese. This is an exciting time for both myself and my partners at XMonetae Capital, and I hope you’ll join us on this journey by following this blog.
